Just as we are about to lose the services of the Emergency Towing Vessel the Anglian Princess, for the second time in a week there was an emergency close to Lands End that needed her. The 93m Tanker Tina Theresa heading for Dublin seems to have lost all engine power and was drifting towards Lands End. The Anglian Princess had been in Newquay and arrived to stand by - they eventually seem to have started to move forwards albeit at only 3-4 knots and has turned and passed South of us overnight and is now past The Lizard - heading for Falmouth Bay.   The AIS is not working well this morning so it's difficult to tell exactly what's happening - but not nice to think what might happen when the nearest tug is so much further away and is only there to make money. Tanker is now alongside in Falmouth - I assume for repairs.    For more knowledgable pieces about the loss of the Anglian Princess - see the comments - many thanks

  1. although the anglian princess is contracted to the mca, as soon as the tug picks up a job then it goes 'off-hire' from the mca and earns te company money. however, as soon as the ETV moves from the contract with the mca then we will have 'vulture' tugs anchored prob in mounts bay to jump on such jobs and cost the tax payer no money.

  2. Had the MCA set up a proper contract initially the ETV's could have made money instead of a Dutch man and his salvage tug as we will see shortly . .

The ETV's could also have provided fishery patrol & UK Border Agency duties.

What the UK needs is a Coastgaurd like the US . . . . wake up Westminster!
