A really wild afternoon

By this afternoon the wind was gusting over 70mph the highest gust being 76mph - I foolishly opened the patio door in the dining room which sent a massive gust through the house and made the loft hatch bang - still I managed to take one or two shots of the mountainous sea crashing over Cudden Point
Really big swell running along the side of Cudden Point
A little later I went downstairs and out through the patio door down there, which is easier to close in a gale !  It was really difficult to walk across the garden as the wind was so bad and it made me realise that it wouldn't be safe to walk the dogs this afternoon
They really don't show just how huge and powerful these waves were
Lots of sand in the water again
Just before 6pm the power went off - it had been on and off a few times during the day, but this time it didn't come straight back on, so we got out the trusty little gas stoves and had a naughty but nice meal of poached eggs, baked beans and fried bread. The power came back on just after we'd finished, but the little LED lanterns are still on low, just in case it goes off again !
It has gone off again - Vodaphone dongle saves the day again !  Wonder how long it will be off this time. During the evening there was a massive gust of 81mph - this morning it's calmer down a lot, sadly the showers are still with us.

  1. It looks like really wild weather, but makes for great photographs. Your camping out meal at home sounds delicious too. I haven't had fried bread for years, but remember I ate it every morning at the college hostel in Bath during my freshman year! No wonder I became ill and the Falmouth doctor called the college to complain about the food! I chose to eat it though:)

    1. Lots of damage all along the South Coast by the sound of it - max. gust 81mph but there was a constant wind that was really battering the windows and roof again.
As for dinner - it was just a case of eating something that only needed two gas rings, and of course that wasn't frozen. Really enjoyed it. Power has been back on for a while, then off again for an hour - back on now, but the little LED lanterns are still on low - just ion case.
There's been a massive storm surge again - might go out to try to get some photos, but it will be very busy as it's Saturday.
Gather that a Cruise ship - the Marco Polo has been hit by a huge wave and a window smashed - two people badly injured and airlifted off one has died.
Hopefully a slightly calmer week ahead. Sue
