14,231 Pirates on The Prom - sadly 77 short of the record held by Hastings

Quote from the Newlyn blog, Through the Gaps.
"Let us not forget that at the end of the day the real winners are the RNLI - every scurvy pirate who made it to the prom gave a gold £1 coin in entrance money so after today's world record attempt the Penlee lifeboat's chest is £14000 to the good - well done to all the pirates who braved the slightly inclement weather - see you next time !"
It's been a long day spent on our feet for most of the time, Jim is already asleep, Wooster didn't even make it onto his bed & fell asleep on the  floor and I can hardly focus on the screen, so I'll edit the many photos I took tomorrow !  Sorry !

  1. Oh what a shame. 77 is such a small number. Well done all of you for taking part. Perhaps we should make our trip to Cornwall in May next year to add 2 more to the number. have a good sleep tonight.

    1. The annoying thing is that evidently there were many people who didn't seem to realise that they HAD to be within the specific area and although once you had your numbered wristband you could go out you had to go back in before 4pm to be counted - huge numberes were outside The Lugger Hotel and outside the count ! ! Need more announcements and less loud music !

  2. Oh, nearly got it ! Well done to all for your efforts. Saw the Spotlight report and looked like everyone had a fun day. Great boost for the Town and such a wonderful amount raised for the RNLI. Looking forward to seeing the photos when you've had a good sleep and recovered !

    1. As I said to Gaynor - above - really had done it, just people didn't seem to have understodd the rules ! Really sad that the weather didn't co-operate - glorious sunshine this morning - typical ! Sue

  3. That is such a colourful picture on what looks like a grey day. Kudos to those who turned up and almost beat the record. Penzance really should have the title as the Pirates of Hastings does not have a ring to it. It is great that the entry fee goes to such a worthy cause too.

  6. Thank you for a great post of all the fun and atmosphere of the day. I was sorry to hear via Facebook that you hadn't broken the record but that just means there'll have to be another Pirate day next year! Great effort for the RNLI.

  7. Certainly should have managed to raise a really good amount for the RNLI and I think we'd all had a great day ! We're keeping the pirate gear for next year !
