Quote from the Newlyn blog, Through the Gaps.
"Let us not forget that
at the end of the day the real winners are the RNLI - every scurvy
pirate who made it to the prom gave a gold £1 coin in entrance money so
after today's world record attempt the Penlee lifeboat's chest is £14000
to the good - well done to all the pirates who braved the slightly
inclement weather - see you next time !"
It's been a long day spent on our feet for most of the time, Jim is already asleep, Wooster didn't even make it onto his bed & fell asleep on the floor and I can hardly focus on the screen, so I'll edit the many photos I took tomorrow ! Sorry !
PERRANUTHNOE is a small village on the South Coast of Cornwall, just East of Marazion, there is a Car Park and sloping access to a safe sandy beach and the beachside Cabin Cafe. It has The Victoria Inn a superb multi award winning pub, which serves super food both lunchtimes & evenings, - a Church dating back as far as 1160. The Lynfield Centre which houses The Cowhouse Gallery, The Peppercorn Cafe and a hairdressers.

Oh what a shame. 77 is such a small number. Well done all of you for taking part. Perhaps we should make our trip to Cornwall in May next year to add 2 more to the number. have a good sleep tonight.

The annoying thing is that evidently there were many people who didn't seem to realise that they HAD to be within the specific area and although once you had your numbered wristband you could go out you had to go back in before 4pm to be counted - huge numberes were outside The Lugger Hotel and outside the count ! ! Need more announcements and less loud music !
DeleteOh, nearly got it ! Well done to all for your efforts. Saw the Spotlight report and looked like everyone had a fun day. Great boost for the Town and such a wonderful amount raised for the RNLI. Looking forward to seeing the photos when you've had a good sleep and recovered !
ReplyDeleteJane.
As I said to Gaynor - above - really had done it, just people didn't seem to have understodd the rules ! Really sad that the weather didn't co-operate - glorious sunshine this morning - typical ! Sue
DeleteThat is such a colourful picture on what looks like a grey day. Kudos to those who turned up and almost beat the record. Penzance really should have the title as the Pirates of Hastings does not have a ring to it. It is great that the entry fee goes to such a worthy cause too.
ReplyDeleteJust a good excuse to do it all next year ! Glorious today - as one of the forecasts had said for yesterday !
DeleteWhat a shame, but still a wonderful amount well done to all concerned ! yes Sue I now remember it was 2011 a beautiful sunny day and a wonderful Golawan Festival loved all the childrens parades.Last year it was any smell of food I avoided !!!!! hope you feel rested today.macca
ReplyDeleteTiming is everything ! - glorious weather today - still we'll get the record next time ! Sue
DeleteSue, you are missing one very important photograph. A selfie of you and JIm in your outfits!
ReplyDeleteOh dear I though someone would mention that !
DeleteWe did mean to take photos and just never got round to it, then we got home and took the kit off - next year !
I will hold you to that!
DeleteThank you for a great post of all the fun and atmosphere of the day. I was sorry to hear via Facebook that you hadn't broken the record but that just means there'll have to be another Pirate day next year! Great effort for the RNLI.
ReplyDeleteCertainly should have managed to raise a really good amount for the RNLI and I think we'd all had a great day ! We're keeping the pirate gear for next year !
