Porthgwarra Cove as we walk towards the path that goes up onto Gwennap Head
Looking down as we climb up the steps out of the cove
 Such a lovely area
The rugged coast  leading to Porthcurno around the headland
The camera was able to focus on the big car carrier and behind it is St Mary's IOS
Looking over the headlands to The Lands End Visitor Centre
One of the two conical markers up on Gwennap Head - like many people I'm sure we always assumed they were to do with plane navigation - but no !
"When at sea the black and white one should always be kept in sight in order to avoid the submerged rocks nearer the shore. If the black and white cone is completely obscured by the red cone then the vessel would be directly on top of the Runnel Stone. The black and white landmark was erected by the Corporation of Trinity House in 1821"

  1. Exceptional photos Sue! You really are the font of all wisdom - how do you find all these interesting snippets? If you look very closely at your Lizard Ighthouse pic I was frantically waving to you! We did the lovelly walk around there, what's going on with the 'Grand Design' behind the Lloyds Signal Station? We wonderd what the square brick wall was on the footpath outside the N.C.I. was, it has a vertical white stripe painted on it? Perhaps something similar to your discovery? We had been in Falmouth a.m. (I had the date wrong for the Tall Ships - it's next weekend) but did spot a wonderful Tall Ship off Church Cove. Returning daughter to Exmoor later, will compare the heather! Kathy P.

    1. Ashamed to say that we haven't made it any further than Kynance this year. We usually do that kind of walking in the Spring, but we were just so busy this year. Hopefully we will go over there in September and take a look at the the "Grand Design"
Hoping to go to Falmouth to see the Tall Ships in the harbour and also the parade from the same spot as 2008 - Rosemullion Head.
If you saw a big white sailing ship it was Sea Cloud II - stunning cruise ship that sailed down the Eastern side of The Lizard at around 4pm. Hope the Heather on Exmoor lives up to expectation - such a colourful time of year. Sue
