Porthleven

We parked on Loe Bar Road and walked into Porthleven - this area so often seen in storm photos
Years ago we used to stay in the little cream cottage when Nick was a youngster - Easter & October - before they put the sea defences there. You can't get much closer to the sea !
When we reached Porthleven we soon realised that Lifeboat Day had been cancelled due to the weather conditions - I had been checking on facebook, but we left home just too early to see the notificaton.   Still, it was a lovely day for al-fresco wining and dining and just wandering about enjoying the sun and the views
Flats and Sharps were busking outside The Ship Inn
The favourite view for storm photos looking very different today
Porthleven inner harbour - with the baulks in to protect the boats
Looking back as we walk back towards the car
The amazing Trewavas Mine Engine Houses & Chimneys
Liked these new cottages that have been built in the style of the old miners cottages.
When we got home we had a cup of tea and took the dogs for a quick run around the Ednovean/Trebarvah circuit, so the day ended as it had begun.

  1. I noticed that the house on the headland which appears in all the dramatic news photos of storms is up for sale. I wonder if last winter made them decide that, as the house looked to be engulfed by those reported 75 foot waves.
Porthleven is one of my favorite places to visit, and it was our three vacations there in the mid 60s that made my parents decide to leave the rat race of the south east and move to Cornwall. I was happy as I did my sixth form years in Truro; two of the happier school years I ever had in spite of A levels.

    1. Yes Tye House is/was up for sale - it used to be a hotel, for the last few years it has been one of the big posh lets for corporate or large family breaks - quite a few of these now. It can't have done that well - or maybe they just think another Winter like that might damage it !
Porthleven is such a lovely village - although I prefer it when it isn't quite as busy as yesterday - amazing to think how it changed your life. Sue
