World Plastic Gig Championships - Sandy Cove, Newlyn

We drove down the road towards Newlyn to park and as we arrived the gigs were making their way to the start for the first race. These "plastic" gigs are the modern training gigs that many clubs now have - many of the wooden racing ones have already been shipped to Scilly ready for the World Pilot Gig Championships in early May
Then back they came - moving much faster with one of the Mount's Bay gigs close to the front
Gry Maritha passing The Mount on her way in to Penzance
Some of the crowd on the beach at Sandy Cove - assume it did have sand at one time !
A quick changeover and back went the gigs for the next race - with Shearwater  II further over towards The Mount
Back they came with Mount's Bay gig Breeze at the front

 The finish
Irene leaving Newlyn for another trip round the bay
 Stopping to hoist some sail
 Off she went
as the gisgs with a new crew made their way up towards the start
Double fly-past by a Skybus on a scenic tour - or was it a spying mission before the World Pilot Gig Championships over on Scilly in early May
Mount's Bay gig St Aubyn doing well in the last race we saw before making our way back to the car and heading for home

    1. We were lucky with the weather yesterday - much cooler and more cloud today.
The little cafe used to be - dare I say - a little grim ! Just some paint and basic farmhouse style furniture etc and it's super and such a wonderful view as well. Sue
