Scillonian III leaving Dry Dock late this afternoon - rain all day so nothing else !

A dull and drizzly day, but I still wanted to see Scillonian III leaving dry dock
Dock is flooded and she's ready for off

Ross Bridge closing
Quite a crowd today - gather it was on Radio Cornwall
Huge numbers of Starlings arriving on the top of the Church tower
Tug Danmark arriving to pick up the tow
Harbour Master watching as Danmark gets going
Slowly out she comes
Right back to the far side of the pool

In came Boy Brendan to pull her forward - gather she has a problem with her gears so needed to be pulled (now where have we heard that before ?)
It's always very tight- with man hanging on to a tyres as a buffer
I crossed the road to see Boy Brendan pulling with the Harbour Master keeping an eye on the proceedings
A bit of a scrape will need touching up

It was getting darker, but even the car park looked good
The tugs swapped over and Danmark gently pulled her over to Albert Pier

Looking very special as it got darker

    1. She was looking good, but evidently the work on her gearbox hasn't gone well - I wondered why they had brought Boy Brendan in from Falmouth - that's because she needed to be pulled out like Mali Rose. Do wish they'd get their act together - all this fuss about helicopter when the boats are the real lifeline for the Island people. Sue

  2. Thank you so much for the photo's, YES, I did hear about it on Radio Cornwall and was so hoping you would be there to take the photo's. Tight squeeze by the looks of it, lucky to get away with that little scrape. Another gloomy morning here, but looks like you are going to have a bright sunny day tomorrow, Wooster & Tilly will be so pleased, and hopefully it will dry up a lot of the muddy paths. Thanks once again.

    1. Pleased you enjoyed seeing the old lady - she always looks good when she's fresh out of dry dock. Can see several "scars" along that side where she obviously rubs the side of the opening. Just hope the Steamship company get her gearbox sorted and then do a proper job on Gry Maritha as she's well overdue for her annual service - which is due to happen in April along with Lyonesse Lady which will be in dry dock behind her. They said they are hiring in extra workers to get her out faster - I've heard they don't have enough workers in the dry dock any more - have lost all the Stevenson Trawler business that used to keep them going - they send their boats to NE somewhere. Oh dear it could all end in tears ! Sue
