The ramp down to the beach has a huge pile of stones at the bottom at the moment, thrown up by rough seas & some high tides. It's fascinating as it changes all the time. The is still quite a swell today & the tide was coming in very fast, so I left Jim to it & took some photo's from the safety of the ramp.

Perranuthnoe beach on a dull winter's day.

Perranuthnoe in the mist !

Just to prove that I'm not just taking it easy, another grey day, the line of rain that's been hanging over us just can't move as it's being pushed from the East up against the weather coming in from the West. Nasty Easterly wind forecast for next week as well as wind from all other points of the compass - lovely !

Sorry, not really a Perranuthnoe Blog today as we had another awayday !
We still wanted another giant rug from Trago Mills near Liskeard as we couldn't fit it in the car on Tuesday, (the 15% off sale was only on for today & Sunday ! ) so it was dogs in the car & off we went back up the A30, the conditions were a little better, with a little rain, but only cloud on the hilltops. We were lucky to find that they had the one we wanted - (only because someone had brought it back yesterday). We popped into the pub just up the road from Trago for probably one of the worst meals we've had in a long time. A quick dog walk & back down the A30 via a quick trip to The Range on the outskirts of Truro for a bit more shopping - I'm very difficult to stop once I get going on a shopping spree ! Jim did treat himself to a new pair of windscreen wipers as one of his wiper blades had split & been gaily waving around all day !
We then took Charlie & Tilly on a woodland squelch ! ! before heading home exhausted

A working water wheel
A couple of Geese looking very content !
For those who have never heard of this place - it started out as a gunpowder mill in Napoleonic times (I think) Trade was started in a small shed in this amazing area of the Glynn Valley, in an area like Cornwall, where large shopping Malls are a long drive away, it has become a mecca for shoppers & sells just about anything you could possibly want.
Back down the A30
Before going home, we stopped of at the local pinewoods at Plain an Gwarry only 5 minutes from home. It's our "bad weather" walkies - as you can see it's in a low lying spot and the small stream in this photo, is in fact the main path through the woods ! We don't go there if the wind is too strong as the trees are not strong & tend to drop branches or worse fall over ! The dogs absolutely love it there - lots of nice bunny & squirrel tracks to follow !
Scillonian III
I took this because I thought it was Scillonian III in her usual spot & realised that she must be going to go into the dry dock this evening. Take a look at Keith Hargreaves & Ladybird links on the right to see some super shots - I'll get it one day !
After a long day out up at Trago near Liskeard yesterday in rain & fog, today was calm and lovely & sunny by lunchtime. Been so busy moving furniture laying huge rugs etc that I forgot to take any photos. We took the dogs out in good time for the sunset, but got talking & missed most of it - such is life ! Still, the builders got on well today & were so warm they were in their tee-shirts - that's a sure sign we're in for more wind, rain & cold weather !

Acton Castle nr. Rosudgeon
Often in the distance in our photos - this is Acton Castle originally built by the brother of the famous smuggler John Carter - known as the King of Prussia. It has fabulous views of the bay and is now divided into very smart holiday apartments.
Oystercatchers
A couple of photos of my favourite birds. These Oystercatchers were pottering around on the rocks waiting for the tide to recede.
High Tide at Perranuthnoe
The huge boulders that guard the entrance to the beach & Cliff House taking a pounding at high tide. I gather that Cliff House used to have a field with a barn between it & the cliff !
Mounts Bay
As we turned round to head home before it got too dark, we noticed that there were dark clouds all around the edge - out at sea as well as over the land, but it was clear above us - possibly we were in the centre of the low that was passing over today !

Sorry I've been busy today - took these few pics later this afternoon. By 5.30pm the wind was back, lots of heavy showers & the wave height at Sevenstone has gone up to 20ft - these three photos were taken with the patio door open & me inside as the wind was getting strong again. Although the waves do not seem huge - the swell is rolling right up Cudden Point.

Went to Penzance as usual today, it was nice & sunny, but chilly when you were in the wind. Wanted to go to Lidl in Wherrytown - towards Newlyn, so stopped and took some photos from further round the bay. The sun disappeared by 4pm and it the wind has really got up and has just gusted at 53mph at Gwennap Head, near Lands End and the rain in hammering on the window.
Looks like it's going to be another noisy night ! Hope we don't get too many leaks this time !
