Whilst several of our Echiums in their third year have tall rather spindly flower spikes, this one looked like it waas finished after the 2008/9 winter, but has suddenly sprouted this rather fetching multiheaded look !
This rather sorry looking Echium has borne the brunt of two winters since sticking it's head "above the parapet" so to speak. It sort of swings around like a weather vane in the wind !
As we walked the dogs we were surprised to see this vessel taking a detour into Mounts Bay on her way from Scilly to St Malo. She is the Prince Albert II and looking at her schedule it would appear she is more often seen in the Southern Oceans doing cruises to the Antarctic & South America
It's a lovely time of year with flowers everywhere - I took the usual shot of St Micheal's Mount and when I looked at it on the computer I could see a some Whistling Jacks on the headland in front of me and probably Rhododendrons on The Mount
As we walked in from Men Dhu Point I noticed that the flag of Bochum, Germany has appeared flying alongside one of the barns up at Trebarvah where Gerd & his party are staying.
Couldn't resist taking a shot of poor Tilly trying to get rid of some of Charlie's dinner which had somehow ended up on her head as they ate from their bowls side by side ! Living with a geriatric partner is tricky ! !
(Jim insists I make sure you know I'm only talking about Charlie !)

Lotsof these Speckled Wood Butterflies close to the footpath as I headed round the village this morning.

Perranuthnoe Open Gardens next Sunday

I took advantage of a reasonably fine morning to take a walk round the village to get some photos of a few of the gardens that I needed in order to have a full set to put up in the Church Room next Sunday.
Since it's now raining and the dogs will soon be off to the woods, here's few of the ones from this morning to whet your appetite.

Low tide this morning and a tiny bit of surf brought out quite a few cars onto the car park. Sadly the expected rain has now arrived, but there's still a few surfers out.
Three of the Young Crows have made it onto our old Cornish Hedge - which is awaiting the arrival of an expert to try to put it back together again

Saturday

Unfortunately the weathermen were right and it's been a fairly miserable day with lots of low cloud and wind - such a pity when it's a half term week.

Tanker Nord Goodwill at anchor in the bay, with quite a bit of white water around in the wind today.

Sail Training Ship Lord Nelson

Just to prove that it was there !
I noticed the Lord Nelson way out on the horizon in full sail this morning and checked on the AIS and it looked as if she was coming a little closer as she crossed the bay, heading for Ireland. She then dropped quite a lot of sail and proceeded to slowly drift backwards for hours, almost reaching The Lizard before setting off again in what was by that time rather dim light - I did try to get a shot through the 'scope, but she was just too far off. - pity !
We walked up to Trebarvah and were suprised to see how dark it had become to the West
As we got further along the footpath & turned around it looked quite threatening, so we turned & retraced our steps. As we passed through the farmyard at Trebarvah we noticed that Gerd and his party have arrived safely from Germany. They will certainly have a wonderful view from up there. Hope to meet them whilst they are here.

Through the 'scope !

Just before dinner I noticed yet another vessel coming in towards us it was the Royal Fleet Auxilliary - Fort Victoria, a combined Fleet Stores and Tanker she slowly went across the bay and then headed out.

HMS Severn

First thing this morning, cruising out in Mount's Bay was Off Shore Patrol Vessel P282 HMS Severn
The first of the "Crowlets" has made it's maiden flight across the garden to the Cedar Tree - before I managed to grab the camera a parent had found it and fed it - when it flew back to the nest it was greeted with the strange cawing noises that the youngsters make. We have now seen four in the Cedar Tree being fed by busy parents.

Thursday, 27 May 2010

A fine evening after another glorious day, but with just enough breeze to keep Charlie happy !

Naughty Naughty !

We spotted these cyclists along near Boat Cove, Trenow, and here they are carrying on - I assume all the way to Cudden Point & beyond. There are many signs stating that the Coastal Footpath is just that not a cycleway and it is certainly not suitable as a cycleway. They are allowed to cycle on bridleways only not footpaths such as this
Oh dear, all the work on trying to prevent these gulls from nesting on the roof just seem to have provided them with a support for the nest. The male can get very aggressive and has attacked one of the neighbours as she walked in the garden.

Wednesday Walkies

Sorry, I still seem to be a day behind. We walked the dogs up to Trebarvah and across to Ednovean Farm, where we were fortunate to meet Charles & Christine, who kindly allowed us to go to meet the latest arrivalSummertime, who was quite beautiful and very calm considering she probably hadn't seen two large black & white dogs before !
Mum just keeping an eye on us as we had the dogs with us.
What a little beauty !
The long legs and short neck of a little foal make reaching the grass really tricky

This is how to get to the green stuff !
Lovely tranquil scene

Tuesday :- Our day out at Mylor Yacht Harbour & Trefusis

On our arrival the tide is quite low in Mylor Creek
Mylor Yacht Harbour - it's hard to describe just how many very expensive boats of all shapes and sizes they have here - it's really vast !

Elida - Royal Yacht Squadron

Walking towards the Marina from the car park I spotted this beautiful wooden yacht all ready to be lifted into the water using their fine piece of machinery and lots of manpower.
Reflections in the varnish - how many coats I wonder !
As we arrived for our lunch they were lifting this yacht out, which makes for good entertainment whilst eating & drinking !

Wednesday, 26 May 2010

It's now the turn of Elida to be lifted into the water - looks like hard work
The proud owner looking quite calm as they start to move her
Gently does it - down she goes
Safely in the water - remove the supports and move her down to the pontoon where her mast will be lowered into place.
By the time we got back from our walk, there she was with her mast in place and her proud owner awaiting the escort boat to take her to her berth.

A lovely birthday lunch

We had a superb light lunch at Castaways, Jim had his favourite Crab Sandwich & I had Smoked Salmon & Lemon Mayonnaise really beautifully served and quite delicious.

Naughty but nice !

Well ! it was my birthday so we both had a sweet - mine the top one of Lemon Creme Brulee, with clotted cream & Jim had the Sticky Toffee pudding with clotted cream - nice !

Walking by the water on the Trefusis Estate towards Flushing

Beautiful field of Buttercups and Speedwells
Tilly investigating the sound of the water slopping onto the rocks below
Enterprise - one of the tripper boats passing a nice little Cornish Shrimper
Busy on the water today - another of the tripper boats that travel up & down the Roads
Looking across to the yachts moored off St Just in Roseland. Hidden amongst the trees, right down near the water is the much photographed church.
Looking right down The Carrick Roads towards St Anthony Light & Falmouth Bay - the mist making for a rather nice shot from Jim
Lots of yachts out in the haze
