A few photos from the last couple of days

Nick & I popped down to Marazion on Sunday evening for some fish & chips (well you have to have a treat every now and again !) and fortunately Nick had his camera with him as The Mount and Mount's Bay were looking quite beautiful.
Lovely old fishing boat (ex PZ277) Pioneer at anchor off St Michaels Mount on Monday evening
Birthday Boy Jim -was 70 on Sunday (still think he's hiding a portrait in the attic !)
keeping an eye on Wooster saying hello to next door neighbour Barney
Taken yesterday, a very calm looking Cudden Point - a bit different to today where there are white caps pushing around from the far side in the stiff Easterly wind
Huge flock of migrating Swallows with a few House Martins in amongst them. They were hawking around the house and over this field of Swedes that are under their protective netting (no spraying allowed !)  I expect they will be gone by the morning if they like the conditions.

Newlyn Fish Festival

Bilbo - the life saving, award winning dog  - and the only dog allowed (other than guide dogs) at the Fish Festival. At eight years old he's getting on a bit as these huge dogs do not have the lifespan of smaller dogs. He still seemed to enjoy all the attention and was right by the entrance and as we left he was surrounded by admiring children !
Not Fish at all - but one of the first stalls we saw as we walked into the fish area was the Wessex Pies stand - from just over the border in Devon, Jim has only just ordered some - due to be delivered on Thursday - could have saved the delivery charge !  Still the pies are delicious and can be ordered online. He was very keen to show us his Gold award that they had recently won - he was due to make Jim's pies today !
Yep, Jim had ordered a couple of these as well as a Steak & Kidney pie - he cuts them up and stores them in the freezer to use as needed
Super Turbots and you can really see just how good their camouflage is as bottom fish
Huge Ray of some sort ! - sorry my camera didn't like the lights in the display area, so they're not as clear as I'd like.
Fish of all difference types making ap an amazing display
Liked these three characters snuggled into an eel
Looks like a rather icey Stargazey Pie !
Took this whilst Jim was buying his Lobster - now half eaten !
A lady dressed as a Cornish Fishwife
Nice old Lugger Guide Me - the only one I've seen with no engine
Lugger Barnabus
The shape of things to come - the very smart Lyonesse
At this time of year the Ben Loyal would normally be out searching for Albercore Tuna - note the long rods - I gather it's not been a good year and they have mostly been landed in France and they get a better price - shame !
Well ! it was a fish festival and there were several large shoals of fish swimming about in the harbour
No sign of the For Sale board on Snowdrop and she was on a pontoon berth instead of her usual spot in the old harbour - would be lovely to see her out and about again
With so little water in the Harbour due to the very low tide, the jet skis were left to put on a show

The All Weather Lifeboat The Ivan Ellen and the Inshore Lifeboat the Paul Alexander putting on a show - they were due to do a proper demonstration later - sadly we could not stay that long

The gigs parade around the harbour before their race to The Mount & back
Pendeen gig, Avarack
The newest Mount's Bay gig, Cormoran
Another Mount's Bay gig & eventual winner of the race Kensa
 Zennor gigs Melusine and Senara
Last of the Mount's Bay gigs Taran
Such a pity that these singers only started as we were about to leave and then that the video was so short - actually managed to find out how to edit & convert it to post on the blog !
We set off back towards the car and found that Tom had company. A couple more statues had appeared -  I can only think of Pirates of the Caribbean for this one
Probably my ignorance, but I have no idea who he is supposed to be
Just loved the wonderful clear reflection in his glass orb
As I took the photo of the glass orb I said to Jim how beautiful the reflection was & the "statue" turned & smiled !
Kensa storming in first after racing towards The Mount & back - this motor boat had been in & out of the harbour all day but had totally underestimated the speed of the gig - we assumed it would wait until they had gone in "through the gaps"
Had to really speed up, to get out of the way of the fast moving gig !
Mount's Bay gig Taran coming in second & I think that their third gig Cormoran was third (it was a long way off & we needed to get home !)
St Michael's Mount looking good with nice blue sky & sea as we walk back towards the car
Just a short video of these super Cornish singers - unfortunately a group of impatient people came barging through those of us who were standing to listen and take photos - had to edit it due to the language of the photographer ! !

Newlyn Fish Festival

The Fishermans Memorial affectionately known as Tom, all alone at 9.15am, awaiting his biggest crowd of admirers of the year !
It's a very busy week for us - 2 birthdays in three days and The Country Fair and the Fish Festival as well ! I've got lots of photos, but they'll have to wait !
This Cormorant had obviously heard about the Fish Festival and had come to take a look, hoping there might be some free samples

Young Farmers Country Fair at Stithians Show Ground

Donkey Derby !
Great fun and the Donkeys are in superb condition and seem to enjoy it !
Young Harry the Harris Hawk taking part in the Birds of Prey demonstration - the first one was unfortunately cut short by a heavy shower of rain and we missed the second one by timing our cup of tea badly !
With hood removed he's almost ready - note the transmitter aerial on his leg - just in case of an "escape" in the event he did fly off a little way, but was retrieved by a helper quite quickly !
