The Sterden Va Bro

Stereden Va Bro –heading across the bay this morning - she has a fascinating history -- ex TO5 Built in 1954, out of oak on oak, in the Breton port of Camaret , as a motor crabber. She is 65ft long (90ft overall including bowsprit), with a 20ft beam, and draws 11ft of water, The Stereden Va Bro would have had a large vivier tank in her hold. She came to Newlyn and worked as part of the Rowse crabbing fleet, until a disastrous fire at sea very nearly destroyed her. The current owners painstakingly laboured through the devastation left by the fire, and have, subjected her to a gradual, tasteful renovation, and conversion to the lovely gaff ketch that we see here today. She is great tribute and testament to all their hard work. (excerpt from "The boats of Penzance")
