Welcome Home - L12 HMS Ocean
Had a brief visit from HMS Ocean this morning. She cruised in towards Mousehole, turned and went out again. She is an "Ocean class" Landing Platform - Helicopter - the only one in her class. Technically (by displacement) she is the largest ship in the Navy. She can carry up to 18 helicopters and is capable of carrying (but not operating) up to 15 aircraft such as RAF Harriers. (HMS Ark Royal is longer & wider, but her displacement is around 1,000 tons less) - I got that info from Wikipedia, but I reckon the carrier HMS Illustrious is larger !
