Disaster Averted ! !, but no day out !

It all started when I got home from Penzance last evening and spotted a shiny mini river flowing down the recently ploughed field below us. I went down to take a look and realised we had a major problem as it was coming from the sewer pipe that runs through our property. Our neighbour had had his drains flushed and filmed for his prospective purchaser only that day, so it had obviously triggered something nasty ! We got up and phoned SW Water, but they could only promise that someone would come when he could. Jason from Threeways Drain Clearance who had done the camera etc the day before drove down from Bodmin and managed to get 60ft of hose down from our drive. It seemed more than possible that there was another manhole down on the lower level, so neighbour Dave set about clearing the huge greenery and eureka ! found it and they managed to flush it through and problem solved.

Not the day we had planned as we were were going to Porthgwarra for the day, but still it could have been worse as the nasty stuff was heading right for the Beach Car Park, which would have been really bad !
Our little field is above this huge bank of greenery & somewhere in there the effluent was leaking out.
I spent ages tracing exactly where the trickling water noise was & in went neighbour Dave with his power hedge cutter.
Found it !
It took all their strength to get the cast iron lid back in place. We'll cut the greenery right back and keep an eye on it in future. Oh, and the man from South West Water never arrived !

  1. OH WoW! what a day Sue but at least you managed to get it sorted.
I would never have expected the man from South West Water to turn up.
We had a problem a few years ago and the only time anyone from Soth west water turned up was when I refused to pay the bill, after a couple of coversations with my solicitor and a refusal to pay anything that was the end of it, we have never heard another word.

Edit: you owe yourself a trip to Porthgwarra now.

  2. We did see what looked like a SW Water van turn on the car park, & up the hill to the drive I went to meet him, but he never came !
Still, for a very reasonable sum - shared between us & the neighbour it was sorted. Need a days rest today - rather grey and windy Sue
