The Penlee Lifeboat the Ivan Ellen on it's way back from attending the capsized fishing boat the Donna May off Porthleven, it was evidently quite literally knocked over by a huge wave. One crew member made it to shore and the other was rescued from the sea by a Sea King Helicopter from RNAS Culdrose and was taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital.

Penlee lifeboat returning from a shout at Porthleven .... thankfully they were not required.
ReplyDeleteThanks - I was writing an account of it at the same time as your comment ! Very lucky escape - so fortunate that walkers on the footpath saw it happen. Looked up the wave height at Sevenstones and it was nearly 20ft. Some good photos on Scillywebcam of Britania loading her passengers on St Agnes, Phew ! rather them than me ! Sue
