We spotted the Sea King from 771 Squadron RNAS Culdrose arriving just down the coast - we had obviously missed the Sennen Lifeboat heading in the same direction whilst we were having lunch.
We later learned that the helicopter had lifted one of a group that had been caught out by the incoming tide and one of them - a young lady had gone into the water and was therefore taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital with suspected hypothermia. The rest were taken off by the Lifeboats Y boat and taken to Sennen.
I have just read on the Sennen Lifeboat website that they had to return & do almost the same thing again today - high level of sand and big tides evidently means that at low tide you can walk the whole length of the bay - but probably not back in the time !
