Servicemen and Cadets march in
Speaches -
and I assume a talk on the heroic exploits of Guy Gibson
Ah ! the best laid plans ! - the flag seemed to be reluctant to open and expose the plaque - they later removed the rail altogether.
Then we waited for the fly-past - such a pity there was such a cold wind, but at least the sun came out !
This was very interesting. An amazing story. I first read the book in my teens and have read "The Dam Busters" several times since. How good to have this tribute plaque at Porthleven.
ReplyDeleteI have been having a lot of trouble making comments on blogs this week, so hope this one goes through.
I've just been through and looked at all of your beautiful photos over recent weeks.
Don't know if you read my comment on the 15th.
Hope all is well with you and yours.
Betty
Hi Betty, I had trouble finding where your comment was and thought you'd never find it again, so hoped you'd put another one on.
ReplyDeletePossibly the problems you;ve been having are to do with the new version of Blogger we're having to use - it's giving me a lot of bother.
We had a good day today, but rather a pity that the fly past was not one of the old planes - think it was just the two Hawks from nearby RNAS Culdrose. Did wonder why it's taken well over 50 years to put up a plaque !
Hope your journey into Winter is kind - our Spring/Summer is really stuttering - a few nice days followed by very cold weather - we're lucky here as it's much warmer than the Northern part of the country.
Bye for now
Sue
