Both lifeboats to the rescue

Video courtesy of the RNLI - another job well done !
Even after  all the publicity about the yachtswoman who seems to have lost her life over the weekend  These "yachtsmen" though they would continue their journey to Weston Super Mare yesterday, in gale force winds and angry seas. One of their nunmber became very seasick, so they turned around and then got into severe difficulties attempting to get into Penzance Harbour. Both the Inshore Lifeboat the Paul Alexander and the AWB the Ivan Ellen were needed in the end to get it to the safety of Newlyn Harbour - which of course was full of the local fishing boats - they know better than to go out in a storm like that. The crew of the yacht appeared on BBC Spotlight this evening  they did not seem to regret setting out,  no mention of the crews of the Lifeboats who would have rather have  stayed in port themselves

  1. Hi Sue, I saw the interview with the skipper of the westerly Konsort that went aground off Penzance harbour yesterday he must be a complete fool if he thinks that it was ok to set sail with the a gale force wind warning I don't think he would have been so full of him self if the crew of the Penlee lifeboats did not rescue him and his crew.

  2. Hi Keith, I was rather shocked at the guys attitude - especially since anyone seeing the sea yesterday would have known just how treachorous it was and it must have been many times worse past Lamorna. Wonder if Patch had a word with them - I know he doesn't pull his punches. Watched SCIII head out this morning - not many huges splashes, but lots of water spurting out from the side - so it was a bang and judder trip I suspect ! Sue

  3. Hi Sue and Keith, Being a `Landlubber` I would have thought common sense would be the order of the day, first I read the lady who was given advice not to put to sea from Mousehole chose to ignore it and set sail anyway, then the other guys who had to get to Weston Super mare only to have to call the RNLI, goodness even the Scillonian III stayed in Penzance. My opinion is these people have a poor regard for their lives and the live`s of the rescue service.
Hope Tilly gets better quickly Sue.

    1. Hello Heiko - Think the sailors should be made to watch the video over and over to hopefully learn about risking other peoples lives when you've been reckless enough to risk your own.
Tilly seems to be much brighter now & hopefully will snuggle on her bed and not need me tonight - 2 nights on the sofa is more than enough ! Sue
