Do take a look at these stunning photographs taken by Philip Stephen of the Peterhead (NE Scotland) trawler Harvester, out in 30ft waves - photos taken from its sister trawler. Brave men indeed - makes me appreciate the wonderful fish we get to eat all the more

Have been tossing and turning overnight worrying about the copyright on the above photo - so to make ammends I'll put £10.00 into the RNLI box in Penzance next time I'm there - now I hope I can sleep soundly !

  1. Amazing! Those photos make the Scillonian look quite tame.
A very ingenious collar for the little palm. Hope it survives.

    1. It's the fence I'm worried about Gaynor ! It takes a heck of a pounding in all seasons !
I was stunned by those photos of the trawler - what they go through to ear a living. Gry Maritha eventually went out to Scilly today - arrived safely, but must have been bad as I noticed the speed of larger cargo vessels go down to 3 or 4 knots after they went round Lands End. Still on Scilly they'll all be off to the co-op tomorrow - it can get very bare in Winter ! Sue

    1. Too right Mike, looks very frightening out there. I know that Alan on Ajax had a bad trip last time out - force 10 gales, but he got 100 boxes of Hake so he was pleased - such a hard job. Sue

  3. It makes me feel sick just looking at that! They must have to strap themselves to the steering wheel! Do they have a steering wheel? Brave men indeed.

    1. I agree it looks horrendous - they do have a ships wheel for steering - such brave men- when they fish in such terrible conditions they tend to get a better price for their catch as fish would be scarce on the markets due to many boats staying in port. Sue
