Flooding in Cornwall & Devon

Serious flooding all over Cornwall this evening, this is a photo of Newlyn this evening, due to the massive amount of water coming down the Newlyn Coombe River. There has also been serious flooding in the lower part of Helston as the River Cober burst its banks. The rain has now moved on  - further East and North causing more flooding due to the already saturated ground and swollen rivers. It's hard to believe that for part of the year many parts of the country were in serious drought conditions.
These photos are from the twitter feed on the superb Falmouth Packet website, I've been making sure I give credit for them !
Newlyn looking really bad during the night
Porthleven Road, Helston this morning
There is still a full flood alert in the St Johns area of Helston.

  3. Anonymous, if grammatical errors are all you have to worry about it is most evident that you are not one of the unfortunate persons who currently is residing in a shelter with a couple of feet of water surging through your home. As the blogger has explained you are most unwelcome to the blog and should stop ruining the blog for people who actually look in on a daily basis. Evidently you lead a sad, lonely existence and haven't had any contact with civil society for a while.

  4. I come here to look at the beautiful photographs of Cornwall, not to have a lesson in grammar.

Sue keep up the good work for those of us who enjoy your blog.

    1. Sorry, it was only the usual critic making a very stringent point about my occasional problem with apostrophes.
Do feel so sorry for all the people who have been flooded, I know from seeing previous flooded homes on TV just how long it takes to dry out and get back to normal. Perranuthnoe seems to have survived unscathed, with the big drain that runs down the village & onto the beach having coped well and there was no sign of too much mud from the fields this time. Hope Norfolk didn't get too much of the rain as it passed by - we used to go to Wells next the Sea and walk through the pinewoods to the sea - wonderful ! Sue

  8. My goodness, those pictures really tell the story of how much rain you have had, and the runoff afterwards. Hopefully after a a couple of dry days everything will not look so alarming.
As for your spammer, your blog is always so beautifully presented, so if they are that OCD, they need to get some medical help!

    1. Raining again this afternoon and just had a very vary heavy spell - hopefully the worst is now past us as those who were affected yesterday must be very worried.
Hopefully it will all have settled down by the time you arrive - rail services will possibly take a while to get back to normal, so just as well you are driving !
The anon. apostrophe person has been around for quite a while - I do my best, but I forget sometimes. I was brought up by a teacher and she'd have been annoyed by my mistakes, but would have had more manners than to tell me - now I'm a grown-up !

More rain today, but I think that's the worst of it now.
Hope that the rivers can start to calm down a bit now.
