I gather that Loe Pool is being pumped out over Loe Bar and into the sea again, with more pumps being brought in as they need to lower the water level of the lake or it makes the flooding in Helston worse than ever !
Have heard that someone has been having problems with the water flowing through the village - hope they've managed to keep most of it at bay !
The scene just over the road from Lidl where I was on Thursday.
The railway system is struggling as well, with Cornwall again cut off from the main routes to the East & North without using coaches between Exeter and Tiverton or Taunton - they're asking people not to try to travel at the moment !
Have just watched BBC news...heartbreaking for all those people in Helston and anyone else experiencing such awful conditions...seems even worse at Christmas.Very wet in Norfolk...not a day for walking in the pinewoods at Wells !! love your snowy Christmas scene.Wishing you a very"merry" Christmas and a happy new year.Thank you for all the wonderful pictures and information through the year.
ReplyDeleteI suppose that the rain we had overnight has reached you by now - still pouring here, but there have been spells when it almost stops, but then it starts again - still very windy - but Lands End Weather is off line so no idea just how windy it was overnight.
DeleteDo hope you have a Happy Christmas and New Year and I'm wishing for better weather when the time comes !
what about the poor lady in Perran by the pub, been bailing out since Thurs evening.
ReplyDeleteSorry, haven't been out beyond the top of St Piran's Way today and Jim just went up towards Trebarvah & back - no sign of any problems when we walked the dogs last night - but that was before the heavy rain came. Try the Village Website !
DeleteVery sad for the people flooded out - again. I can't remember the river causing so many problems before, so you must have had an extraordinary amount of rain this year. On another note, I love your Christmas header.
ReplyDeleteHi Lyn, yes we had a huge amount of rain again overnight - sorry Lands End Weather is down, so I don't know ho much, but the problem all over the country is that the land is saturated and the rivers full, so every time it rains like this vulnerable, places are at risk again.
DeleteThe snowy Church photo was taken a couple of years ago - we haven't had snow that settled since - I've added some snow to make it feel festive - but the weather certainly isn't.
Have a Good Christmas !
I love it... I wondered what the white blobs were to begin with. Poor old Helston again, we heard on the news.
ReplyDeleteMy garden is a swamp. I went to top up the bird feeders and the water is just lying on the top....and we don't live near a river!
I love the festive theme and the pic at the top is magical.
I have to save it each year - until we have snow again - I usually struggle to find the link to the snow widget, but found it more easily this year.
DeleteHopefully less rain for us all tomorrow - although it's looking like a windy week - next doors lovely decorative Icicle lights are horizontal at the moment. Sue
The flooding looks awful and such a nuisance for folk who are trying to get home for Christmas. Would be good if the rain cleared over the holiday period, but you don't sound optimistic!
ReplyDeleteLove your beautiful header photo.
It's been great to meet you via your blog and I've looked forward to and enjoyed your daily posts. Hope you have a happy Christmas and a healthy, happy year to follow. Thank you for your nice comments on my blog.
Betty
PS There has been a hiccup in plans for next year.
A grey but dry morning today, which has to be better than what we've had !
DeleteSorry there's been a problem with your plans for next year, I'm sure you'll make it eventually !
Have a wonderful & Happy Christmas with your family.
Sue
Nice images Sue, I think that top one was the most photographed garden in the UK today. Levels did drop tonight but more rain is forecast!
ReplyDeleteI will post some images on my blog tomorrow.
Hi Bob, sometimes it's good to live at the top of a hill as you do - really felt for everyone down there yesterday, so soon after the last flood. They'll certainly have a lot more pumping to do down at The Bar. Sky news & BBC were very "on the ball" with reports from Helston early in the morning. Those Firemen must be exhausted !
DeleteLook forward to your photos. Have a good Christmas !
It's almost a month now, How are you guys there? Hope you’re on a fast recovery from the flood. Are there a lot of homes with wooden floors that needs some time to be fixed? I hope your homes will be restored soon for you guys to have a normal life again.
