As we walked along The Churchway footpath heading towards home I spotted this little group of Snowdrops peeking through the grass.

  1. Good morning Sue,
we have snow here in Bochum since yesterday night, only a little bit, but the traffic in the morning is quite affected.
Yesterday (Monday) I saw the first British (Cornish?) daffodils in some flowershops in town, for me it's a sign that spring isn't that far away.
Finally a little adjustment: the flowers at Churchway footpath are Spring Snowflakes (Leucojum versum) and no Snowdrops.
If you look a little bit closer, you see these green dots at the tip of the flower, one of the caracteristic symptoms of Spring Snowflakes, and they are bigger than the ordinary Snowdrop.
Thanks for all the lovely pictures,
    yours
    Gerd

    1. Good evening Sue (and Gerd),
another little adjustment,(I´m so sorry, dear brother!) ;) : It is Leucojum vernum, not versum!
Best wishes and thanks for the pleasure your pictures give to me every day,

    2. Hello Gerd and Trixi, such a clever family !
I have to say, I'd never heard of the Spring Snowflake - both they and the Snowdrop have a bit of green, but in a different place and the petals are also different - I'll have to check which we have in the garden when they appear !
So pleased that Daffodils have arrived over there. We drove past a field of them ready to pick on the A30 near Crowlas.
      Best wishes to you both
      Sue

    1. Since they are growing on a little now disused flower bed alongside the footpath, I feel I ought to go and clear the grass from around them and try to get a better photo. Sue
