Quay Day, Penzance
After yesterdays processions on Mazey Day, today is Quay Day - which is much more up my street, so off I went just before lunch.
Stereden va Bro
We've seen Stereden va Bro out out in Mount's Bay this year - obviously being prepared to go on sale as there is now a For Sale sign on board
Not that the ship's dog seemed bothered !
Three Masted Lugger Grayhound
Beautiful craftsmanship - the wood looking beautiful
Grayhound is a three masted lugger built to the design of the original
one commissioned for the collector of customs in St Ives - a Mr John
Knill in 1776, she is yet another vessel offering the " traditional
sailing experience" on voyages both around the Westcountry and further
afield
Guide Me
Two very different boats - the modern built Greyhound on the left, with the Looe Lugger Guide Me alongside
Guide me was launched in Looe in 1911, one of the last Mackerel Drifters built without an engine. She continued fishing until 1976. In 1988 restored to her former rig and without an engine once more, she sailed to South America and South Africa, returning via The Caribbean and Brest in 1992.

The Fairground
These twirly things play havoc with your hair !
Goodness knows what happens to your stomach on this one
All lit up, I bet it looks amazing at night - but I could hardly watch
Afternoon walkies
It was looking pretty grim again and feeling a little damp, so just a walkies up towards Ednovean and round to Trebarvah
Think that the Herring Gull chicks must have hatched as we were set upon by the parents as we walked past ! - could get dangerous !
Further to my bravery in walking through 2 fields with cattle in I have been told about this attack that happened recently On The Lizard.
"The dog was on the lead and the cattle at the far end of the field, when she entered. Think they must have had calves with them. She let the dog go but the cow attacked her anyway, throwing her in the air and then rolling on her. She is lucky to be alive and won't be going near cattle in the near future - likely to be in hospital for some time. Even without calves, cattle certainly need to be treated with caution !"

Scillonian III setting off in the gloom this morning on the first of her two trips to Scilly today, due to no flying because of fog yesterday and as it turned out again today. She arrived back in good time just after 9.35pm - sadly depositing her passengers right into the middle of the Golowan celebrations.
The view to the West was still very gloomy when we reached the top of the hill - such a pity, when just a little further East we were in sunshine
Think that this tractor driver had been watching the British Grand Prix Qualifying as he was really belting along. You can see how dry the fields are at the moment.

Yesterday I went to fill Hetty up with petrol at the local garage, which also houses Westcountry Classics and they were just about to load this 1950's fire engine - by the time i went to the car and grabbed the camera he'd driven it onto the low loader.
It's a 1953 Austin A4 Pump/ladder which was supplied new to Falmouth Fire Station. I expect it is on its way to the Wendron Car Rally on Sunday

Grayhound
Super photo taken by Brian Ellis (Mike's brother) of this lovely lugger Grayhound that I took some rather bad photos of yesterday.
