Wow ! Orchids Galore

We went off to Porthgwarra for the day - as Saturday is a good day to go as the roads are less crowded. We walked up the path that is a little further from the coast, so that the dogs could run free. After about 10 minutes of walking up there, we were amazed to see the Orchids - and they were everywhere ! I think they are Common Spotted Orchids - but I couldn't find any spots on the leaves
Some were a little bit mauve/pink
Some were white with pink markings
They were all really pretty

  1. All these photos are gorgeous. The flowers, the blue skies and even bluer water (is that grammatical?)When Cornwall has just the right weather, there is no better spot on earth to be - believe me!
I guess Saturday is light on traffic as it is changeover day for the visitors?

    1. To get the best of a walk like that it should be a blue sky day as it colours the water so beautifully - we were lucky as there was cloud earlier in the morning.
Should have said that it's changeover day that makes the difference - the route is very very narrow and lots of bends and on a busy day there's lots of reversing into passing places - obviously not by me !

  2. Thankyou Sue, aren't the orchids so beautiful, obviously enjoyed our wet winter and spring. We have noticed quite a few in the hedgerows this year also in and around our area. Thanks once again. Another big smile on my face ;-))

    1. So pleased that you liked the Orchids - I thought of you when I saw them ! I suspect that they are having a good year, but have always been there - if we assume that everything is late this year due to the cold start, then we would never have been there at the right time due to holidays. The recent warm weather must have brought them all out at the same time. Such a pity that it's a footpath that hardly anyone uses.
Never managed to see any along the hedgerows - possibly Jim's driving too fast for that He He ! Sue
