The rain arrived with a few rumbles of thunder, and there looked like we'd have time to walk the dogs before the next lot arrived

Looking on the Met Office web site it was a large area of heavy rain, so we kept moving and made it home well be fore the worst of the rain arrived - along with the almost inevitable mini power cut which only lasts 30 seconds or so, but of course everything goes off & has to be re-set. The Sky box is also misbehaving in rain since all the hot weather - must get it checked out.
