A dog has died after eating a "glutinous" substance which has washed up on beaches in west Cornwall.
Penzance vets said the three-year-old miniature schnauzer had eaten a white object on Long Rock beach on Tuesday. Two other dogs are seriously ill after eating the same substance on beaches in the area, vets have said.
Dog owners have been warned to keep their animals away from west Cornwall's beaches. Coastguards are trying to identify the substance.
This substance has washed onto beaches all along the South Coast of West Cornwall during the recent storms and it is probably best to keep children away as well - so sad as we are just coming up to Half Term down here.
Here in the US this week there are warnings too about feeding dogs jerky treats made in China. Over 3,600 dogs have been ill/died after eating them. Name brand here was Wagon Train. Lynn
ReplyDeleteGetting rather wary of all things made in China - so many fakes made there.
DeleteHaven't seen anything over here about the Wagon Train Jerky treats. Sue
Did I hear right that it was something to do with Palm Oil ?
ReplyDeleteYes they said it's Palm Oil gone rancid - the dog that died had eated quite a chunk and evidently the smell was apalling when they were operating to try to save it.
DeleteHopefully most of it has been cleared up - although with storms all over the weekend there may be loads more to come in. Sue
