Snap ! our feeder looked like this yesterrday.....the sunflower hearts don't last long ! the pigeons patrol under the feeders and 'hoover'up the bits ! our Wagtails are still about and the Heron....he's very bold and stares in the window.....someone moves at the speed of light to scare him off ! thanks Sue.macca
ReplyDeleteIt's the Magpies that try to get in on the act here. I've tried all sorts of feeders as you can see, but gave up and gave them a coconut at the front of the house - to try to keep them off the garden one. Three types of Wagtail here - on the roof and balcony - they drive Wooster mad as he just stands and watches as they potter about in front of him - the audacity of it ! Had to take the photos through a double glazed pane and the balcony glass, but pleased they came out ! Sue
ReplyDeleteThe birds that came to our feeder here were very drab - types of brown finches and a scrub jay. I miss blue tits, blackbirds and robins though. I had to discontinue using the feeder as it became the night time take out for hordes of tree rats. I counted ten exiting the tree one night when I banged on the kitchen window. However, we have a camphor tree and liquid ambers that have plenty of natural food for winged visitors, and the rats seem to have decamped to somewhere else. Hummingbirds are always in the garden feeding off the tree flowers and shrubs.
ReplyDeleteThe four legged visitors are the reason I have such a weird looking feeder as they seem to struggle to climb it - the dogs know they are around in the garden - holes are quite small, so suspect mice rather than rats - Must be so lovely to be able to see the Hummingbirds.
