We walked down onto the beach and took some more photos of the surfers
The waves suddenly got very confused and I loved the effect of the sun behind the spray
possibly my favourite

  1. California had amazing waves this last weekend which were perfectly timed for a surf world championship competition at Mavericks near Half Moon Bay. We went to watch the surfers near La Jolla and had a cliff rescue unfold next to us for our entertainment. It was a young man who attempted to climb the cliffs with his pitbull puppy (what else?) in a milk crate. No comment!

    1. Think we're due for more giant seas over the weekend - evidently last Monday the M4 weather buoy off the coast of NW Ireland logged the highest ever wave height of 20.4metres or 66.93 ft - phew !
Great to have had good waves for the surfing championships - never ceases to amaze me what people do around the coasts & cliffs here the RNLI rescue teams of lifeboats and lifeguards had a record year of numbers of callouts and rescues - possibly due to the wonderful Summer weather in some part.

  2. 66 ft waves are huge. The cliffs in question were pretty high and are very crumbly sandstone, so the guy endangered three people who went down on two lines, let alone the four at the top manning the giant nails they hammered into the top of the cliff to lower them. It was odd as there was a new path with steps not three hundred yards to the left that the climber ignored.

    1. Happens all the time, these people just have to try to climb cliffs even though they are obviously too big or crumbly - seem to leave their brains at home !
