Morning walkies

Jim had a dentists appointment, so I took the dogs up the hill to Trebarvah and round the field and down towards the beach - since I had seen there were lots of surfers in the water, due to the clean waves and off-shore breeze
Big group of walkers setting off towards Prussia Cove - no idea how far they were planning to walk, but it's really hard work walking in the muddy conditions we have at the moment.

  1. I see they have their sticks. Have been nonplussed by the amount of people who walk with these ski pole sticks. Is it a new fad? Have even seen them walking up the road past the cottage to Mawnan. It is something that has struck me in the last couple of years, so I'm curious.

    1. I use one walking pole - but it has a handle rather like a walking stick, bought myself the first one when I had my knee replacement. Evidently people who have trouble walking due to arthritis etc. seem to have found that using the two poles means they can walk with ease and further !
We first noticed that many of the German visitors used them and it seems to have spread - all the shops sell a cheap version of them - very useful when climbing over stiles etc. I think it's a sign of how many mature people want to try to keep active and get out on the footpaths. Sue

  2. This is called Nordic walking. It burns more calories whilst walking and reduces the pressure on joints if done properly.

    1. Don't think that most of the ones we see are doing it properly - but if it helps then that's fine - Never worked out how the light use of the two poles tapping along can reduce the pressure on the joints, but it seems to ! Hope you're not too cold up there - did you see the rainbow above No 3 Withy Cottages ? Sue

  3. Thanks. Never heard of Nordic walking, but it seems like Nordic skiing only without snow. I have not seen these sticks in America so far.
