Well ! it had been one hell of a night, the wind was as bad as we've ever known it and the torrential rain smashing onto the windows was very noisy - especially during our power cut when there was no other noise in the house.
I couldn't sleep and got up very early to take a look at the news and see what damage the storm had wreaked. I quite expected to see our garden decimated, but just a couple of branches off the Cedar Tree and the little propped up palm tree now lying on the fence.
There are three photos of Cudden Point that I took just after it had got light this morning, posted at the bottom of todays posts.
After an earlier than usual breakfast, Jim took the dogs up the hill to Trebarvah
Huge waves and lots of white spume
All these pictures you have put up today have really given us people up country a good idea of what you all have been through today. The photos of Porthleven are unbelievable. We walked across the cliff top to the bar this year and it's difficulty to comprehend the waves nearly reaching the top of the cliffs. The power of the sea is incredible and frightening.I hope the next storm that comes your way is a lot milder. I heard there was a gust of 95 mph over in Scilly. A friend of ours was sweeping the sand away from his shop down Silver Street. Take care.
ReplyDeleteIt has been quite a day - the noise of the wind and rain overnight really can make you question why you bought a house with big expanses of windows in such an exposed position, but then in the morning light it's fine again. Porthleven always seems to get a swell like that after a storm, but the power of this one has been far greater than anyone can remember. The lovely walk from the end of Penzance Promenade into Newlyn has been wrecked by the waves - really sad as it's a super walk.
ReplyDeleteWonder how long it will be before the rail link to Cornwall is re-connected - quite a few months I rekon !
