A few hours in Falmouth

We needed a variety of things from Trago in Falmouth, so we set off with our list. We drove through some quite heavy rain, but it was dry when we arrived.
Between April and September 2012 we'll be building a full size - 16 metres - reconstruction of a Bronze Age sewn-plank boat. This is the first time that a boat of this type and size has been built in modern times. The completed boat will put to sea to help discover how similar boats might have performed 4000 years ago. - See more at: http://www.nmmc.co.uk/index.php?/collections/featured_boats/boat_building_2012bc#sthash.xf8xvsem.dpuf

The oldest boats found in the UK date from the Bronze Age (2500 to 800 BC). They are known as sewn-plank boats because the planks of wood that form the hull of the boat are sewn together using twisted fibres of yew. Moss rope is used to caulk the seams between the planks, which helps keep the hull watertight. - See more at: http://www.nmmc.co.uk/index.php?/collections/featured_boats/boat_building_2012bc#sthash.xf8xvsem.dpuf
