Along with Pendeen Watch
Due to lack of space inside the boathouse they were allowing around 10 people at a time inside, so there was a small queue when we arrived
As we waited I took this - looking over the bay towards Perranuthnoe and Trebarvah
We felt it was a great privilege to be allowed to enter this boathouse which has been kept as a memorial to the men who lost their lives on 19th December 1981
The cable - ready to winch the boat - that never came back
The winch - still in working order I gather
The boards showing the services (shouts) of the RNLI Solomon Browne
Amazing to see how many people they saved
Wonderful pictures Sue....almost felt we were there ! the Solomon Browne disaster always brings a lump to my throat....but when you realise how many other lives have been saved over the years it really is an incredible record.Wonderful organisation we always support the RNLI wherever we are. Thanks for sharing.macca.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased that you enjoyed the photos - it was a good day - both to remember the heroism and then go and look at the superb boats that they have today. We were also very lucky with the weather as it was quite warm and bright - today it's rather cold and misty !
