Just as I was arriving up at Oamaru after yet another trip to B&Q I heard a familiar roar and rushed across the lounge, grabbed my camera and went out of the front door just as this USAF F-15 came roaring back - it's really hard to describe the noise and the effect it has on your ears - feel sorry for the Cattle & Horses. Jim was driving along the Marazion by-pass at the time and even in the car it was deafening.
The second F-15 did a quick turn and came past at a different angle
It was moving so fast that by the next shot - it was gone !
We endure the US Marines in their flytoys, and it is very disruptive. Supposed to fly away from residential areas, but they don't. When I was in England once, I was astonished to read that one of their jets had crashed into a house across the canyon from us here in SD, and killed two women and two children. The plane had been in trouble yet tried to return to base and flew over our high school and an elementary school before crashing not that far away from both campuses. The worst are the big transporters though which seem to be very low so cannot follow the prescribed turn to the north at the end of USMC Miramar's runway, and fly over a heavily populated area of North San Diego. I am not a fan of the military as a neighbour I may add.
ReplyDeleteWe have since discovered that a Russian Bear aircraft was spotted flying close to UK airspace off the coast of Cornwall and was warned off by two RAF planes - perhaps these two came this way in a show of strength - although of course they seem to think that "rural" Cornwall is a good spot to zoom around at low altitude. The comical thing is that England is so small that they come all the way from Lakenheath Suffolk - probably in minutes - how many hours by road for the holidaymakers ! Sue
