We'd got no Hake left in the freezer, so I made my way to Newlyn - I spotted the Isles of Scilly Lifeboat - The Whiteheads, which is in Newlyn for a mini refit and some routine maintenance. Should be ready in a week or so all being well.
The Lovely Irene alongside one of the big trawlers
A very full Newlyn this morning
RNLI Penlee All Weather Lifeboat the Ivan Ellen with the inshore Paul Alexander astern
The display inside Trelawney's Fish Shop
5 of those nice big Hake fillets came home with me & dined on one this evening (not a whole one !)- which was beautiful !Two cheeky little Red Gurnards - sorry but they look too much like the goldfish & Koi I used to keep
Just hope that Wooster doesn't get any ideas !
Low level hover in gale force winds
Oh dear the street signs in Perranuthnoe really are falling apart !
Big dark clouds were racing across the sky and we weren't sure if we were going to get a shower
Super sea today caused by the storms
Don't get many windsurfers here - this guy was great !
We walked down to the top of the ramp to watch
A few others enjoying some sea watching
One or two nice jumps as he went out through the waves
Must be nice.... if you can do it ! I would be a watcher too ! Lovely fish...one of our favourites too ! We have a weekly trip to our fishmonger...like you spoilt for choice ! Super photo's of the Lifeboat..ten weeks before we are on Scilly !! must keep our fingers crossed for the weather ! thanks Sue .macca.
ReplyDeleteI didn't write the full facts about my trip to Newlyn - "traffic hell" would best describe it - got stuck on a single file bend heading out of Newlyn with a Shearings Coach around half an inch off poor Hetty the Yeti, 15 minutes it took, then I went round the little one way system to turn around and came up behind him ! He then went on ahead as I stopped at Lidl then carried on along the Promenade and met the same coach on Ross Bridge (the dry dock bridge) let him come over there before I did Hmm ! Couldn't get into the Harbour Car Park -queued for 10 mins got in and bought my strimmer from Argos - then couldn't get out again as Penzance was gridlocked - went back along the Prom. up Alexandra Road and round to the Penzance Bypass - I totally blame Poldark - not usually quite that bad ! Still it was worth it, the Hake was so wonderful and fresh and tasted superb - the rest is cut into portions and in the freezer !
DeleteAre you staying in Penzance before or after your Scilly adventure ?
Sue
Sorry went on a bit there ! Didn't realise I'd typed so much until I'd published it !
DeleteI have serious fish envy, Sue. There are not too many fresh fish purveyors here, unless you take a drive. Supermarkets seem to have old fish, and who knows how many times it goes in and out of the walk in. Mawnan has two fish vans delivering from Newlyn so people there are better served too.
ReplyDeleteThe fish is one of the many big plusses to living around Mount's Bay - even the fish from a fish and chip shop tastes wonderful. There is a fish van that tours around Perranuthnoe and the surrounding villages, but I love to get out and about, so enjoy a trip to Newlyn. Sue
