Monday - a visit from ex-hurricane Ophelia

A few hours after the wind arrived - a few photos through the window - before it gets blasted by salt spray

The rocks off Maen-dhu Point getting a bashing

Morning dog walk - wind was getting worse and worse
I said that The Greeb rocks needed a power wash

Couldn't stay long out on the point and Wooster and Tilly were on their leads for safety so it was tricky

After I got home I went out onto the balcony - briefly ! Wild sea driving up Cudden Point, lifted by the wind
Noticed that the barbecue was at a cheeky angle despite being roped to the wall on two metal hooks
We decided to take the dogs to the top end of Porthleven to see the waves and walk the dogs at the same time
Just amazing looking beyond the entrance to Porthleven Harbour to Trewavas Head
A huge splash onto the other side of Cudden Point

That is the end of the old road that went all the way to Loe Bar - I think you can see how part of it came to be washed away

Wooster enjoying a mad moment - Pointers and wild wind  ! !
The people staying in these holiday lets are either enjoying the spectacle or possibly a little scared

Home again and Cudden Point was still covered in white water

  1. Wow! What a spectacle,no I wouldn't want to stay in those holiday lets in those conditions. It makes the Mount look very isolated.Hope you didn't have any damage. apart from a lopsided barbecue!Windy here but nothing like you experienced, a peculiar red sun and it got very very dark too.Managed to plant bulbs and pansies, very warm in the garden. Thanks for braving the elements Sue and Jim.(and Wooster and Tilly too )macca

    1. We're due to get another battering over Fri/Sat/Sun - this time the wind will be Westerly veering round to NW. So may well be inundated with surfers. Our house was made as wind-proof as possible during all the building work - the edges of the roof tiles all have a plastic edge that hold them down - we still get the occasional strange noise when they lift in the middle of the roof. Dogs seemed to be quite happy out there, but at Porthleven the spray was really nasty as it swept up the fields - one or two photo followed by wiping the lens - hope I haven't ruined another one he he !
