While Jim was out I noticed that the RoRo Cargo vessel Mazarine was listing "Not under Command" and drifting - rather close to Wolf Rock Lighthouse
Unfortunately it failed to get its engines going and by the time RNLI Sennen Lifeboat arrived along with Scillonian III that had diverted to assist if needed. Exciting times for the Students from Mount's Bay School who were on board as well as the other passengers who took some amazing photos
Shot from Scillonian
Gather she ended up rupturing 2 of her balast tanks, but her on-board pumps were able to deal with it. Sennen Lifeboat is to the left.
She gradually drifted across Mount's Bay, but sadly the weather conditions were not great - we managed a couple of photos from home during a clearer spell
A little gap in the rain, so we took the dogs to the field
Wooster enjoyed himself, but sadly down came the rain again
You can just make out the tug Mercia and one of the lifeboats
The strong wind had brought down one of the dying Echiums across the footpath - now cleared
Lily B still at anchor
This is the course for the Penlee Lifeboat - left Newlyn at 10.33am - blue line is the speedy course to get out there and the yellow is her slow progress across the bay whilst she stayed with the stricken vessel. She returned to Newlyn at around 6.15pm having left Mazarine - now under tow and escorted by the Lizard Lifeboat and Falmouth Port Tender James Dalton Phew ! what a day !
