Been grouting my floor tiles, so just a few not very interesting photos from the dog walk. No birds around - I don't think they like the NW wind, no waves, so no surfers !

Walkies !

The new house that being built in a garden above a property that was on the market for £1.5million a couple of years ago. No idea how they got planning permission for that one.
There's usually something of interest on Boat Cove, but this evening the head count was one Wagtail.
Just as well we didn't get the storm as coupled with the Spring Tides it might have caused more of the cliffs to slide.
Blue sea and sky this evening with the setting sun casting a pinkish glow onto Cudden Point.
The end of a suprisingly good day - chilly, but fine and all the better for not having had the storm that has caused death and chaos in France.

After the storm? ?

Well no not really, I was beginning to think as I posted last evening that the schematics were showing the storm passing to the South of West Cornwall & it did - the max. wind overnight at Landsend Weather was 37mph at 4.56am. There's still a NW breeze, but tucked into a hillside facing South we don't really notice Northerly winds. Unfortunately areas of the UK in the S and SE that have had lots of bad weather recently are getting it again - makes me feel rather guilty !

Mounts Bay this evening

I was busy tiling the floor in one of the en-suites today, so Jim took the dogs on the circular walk out to Marazion & back. Unfortunately the battery was dead in his big camera, so he was left with the little Sony compact.
Lots of Oystercatchers down on Trenow running around at the waters edge.
The swell starting to arrive before the expected storm tomorrow - although it doesn't look as if it's going to be as bad as first thought.
A watery sunset tonight

St Michaels Mount this evening, the sun went in just as we left home, so the light was bad and there wasn't much going on - roll on Spring !
The waves crashing into the little cove just round from Maen Du Point. So exposed on this side today, no birds at all to be seen.
Taken from the cliff, there were a couple of surfers out, but although the waves were quite big they were very messy - The weather forecast is for a big storm on Sunday, coming up from the South.

Polythene everywhere !

Acres and acres of polythene appearing all round Mounts Bay, hope they're going to get a good price for Cornish potatoes this year or there will be a lots of unhappy farmers ! !
Another lot has appeared behind Trenow.
Lots of white water today and with the waves crashing onto the Oystercatchers favourite spot they've probably joined the others on the B & Q roundabout at Long Rock - possibly over 40 of them on there yesterday.
Nice looking moon this evening - only 2 days to go before it's a full moon

Dashing about - before the expected rain !

The Hayle bypass as it passes over the RSPB reserve at Hayle and the smaller railway bridge. The Hayle River is flowing within a drainage chanel almost at the estuary.
Sadly it was the wrong time of the tide to visit the Estuary, but as I was expecting the heating engineer to visit after 12pm it had to be a quick visit.
As the tide was well out only the Teal were close enough to get a photo of.
As I drove up the Hayle Bypass I glanced down to the ponds on the RSPB reserve and thought I saw a couple of Shelducks, so I drove up there on my way home & took a look from the hide - nothing but Black Headed Gulls ! But I spotted them from the road on one of the lower ponds & I just managed a few photos before they were off again.
Just had time for a few photos before they were off - back to the pool I first saw them on - hmm !

A visit to the dentist & Helston Boating Lake

Back to the Dentist for a nice easy filling today - root canal to follow ! ! I called in at the cafe by the boating lake for a coffee and took a few photos as the weather was rather grey & showery and I assumed I would not have any other opportunities today.
Still quite a number of Tufted Ducks on the lake
Don't think this one liked the look of me !
Female Tufted Duck
Wondered if this could be a female Pochard, she was the only one on the lake, but I know there are Pochards on the nearby Loe Pool - more probably escaped domestic duck !
She really was quite a bit larger than the Mallards

Help again !

Again - is this a Duck of mixed parentage ? - it's quite unusual - again probably escaped domestic duck.
Jim took the dogs to the woods as the showers kept coming. Briefly the sun came out highlighting the huge swell that was crashing into Cudden Point. Of course I missed the biggest ones when the phone rang, but this is the third day running we've had a roaring sea !
So that was it - the sun dropped down behind this lot and Jim just got home with the dogs before the next shower.

A cold breakfast !

Just as I was about to have breakfast I noticed HMS Sutherland a Type 23 frigate heading into the bay, it was raining and visibility was too bad for a photo, so I waited for it to come back out, It did so and then turned around to head back in, which is when I took this with Gry Maritha heading out to the IOS behind.
As she came back out of the Bay the rain had stopped, so I managed a better photo.
I took this to show the rather unorthodox way the Marine AIS showed HMS Sutherland approaching Mounts Bay - a new sneaky tactic for vessels - approach over land !

What's through the window today !

I was complaining the other day that we don't get much variety on the bird feeders and just as I was leaving for Penzance, camera in hand, there were a pair of Greenfinches. Really must clean the windows ! !

Purple Sandpipers - at last !

Many times I have parked near Jubilee Pool to look for these, as they are often around here in the winter. This is the first time I have seen them, as you can see they were all asleep and I only saw one beak, but I'm still pleased !

A quick visit to Marazion Marsh on my way home

First Little Egret I've seen here for a while.
Not normally one of my favourite birds, but this Magpie looked rather nice with the sun on it.
Mrs Heron tidying up the nest before getting back well down in the nest out of the wind
Several Oystercatchers digging about in the grass in front of the wall - getting very muddy beaks !
