Although it was a bit breezy in places, Events Square was basking in sunshine for much of the day - until the rain came ! We had lunch at Rick Steins fish restaurant - Jim had 9 Oysters some just shucked and some Tempura ones and I had a lovely piece of Hake - sorry we were so busy eating and watching all the goings on we forgot to take any photos. Rory Bremner sat just behind us having his lunch - I gather he's filming in the area.
It started to rain as we walked back to the car, but after a heavy shower it stopped enough for me to nip out and take a few photos.

Such delicious seafood! I always hunt for oysters in the Helford as they wash down the river from Porth Navas. You can't beat English prawns as the stuff here tastes like cotton wool. Must be the colder water that gives English seafood its sweet taste of the sea. Even Pacific lobsters don't have claws, so tail meat only. I do like sea urchin though and I wonder if it is brought up for food in Cornwall now? used to be just for shells for the tourists and the innards dumped from my memories of quayside Porthleven.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we've got desperate enough to eat Sea Urchin - didn't know it was edible - just looked it up
Delete"The edible portion of the sea urchin consists of five pairs of roe which are receptive to several cooking methods, including poaching and sautéing. Sea urchins can also be eaten raw or marinated briefly in an acidic liquid, such as lemon juice, for use in ceviche." I'm sure Jim would try it - he's eaten worse on his travels in the Far East ! I'm sure some of the local Chefs will be thinking of it as they love something unusual !
