Great Spotted Woodpecker again

The Great Spotted Woodpecker was in the same tree as last time - and this time we got some slightly better shots
No drumming today - just poking around the branches
With one last poke around the branch - it flew off

  1. Glad to see you managed to get him this time. We were out this morning for our usual Sunday stroll. Parked the car and could hear the drumming of a Woodpecker. Managed to find him but camera's couldn't focus. Grr, we'll get him at some point! Did manage to get Peregrine's last week so I suppose that's a bonus.

    1. We were rather pleased - we hadn't realised that this must be his tree ! Didn't hear any drumming at all, but heard the same call as last time - bird book indicates it's when it is agitated (by walkers under the tree I assume as the path goes right underneath !) It is really difficult to persuade the camera to focus on the bird - really annoying ! Pleased you got the Peregrine - have seen one but never got a photo. Found Woodpigeon feathers on the lawn yesterday - looks like I may have missed the Kestrel trying to bag one - as they waddle around on the lawn all the time !Sue

  2. It's always the case, you turn your back and they appear! Peregrine laid her egg last week, so just need to wait a couple of weeks for it to hatch. They were late this year, hopefully the forecasted snow on Thursday, doesn't come!
