What I hadn't noticed when I'd arrived at Porthleven because of the huge crowds all along the end of the harbour was that the baulks that protect the inner harbour in the winter had been smashed by the storm - and the boats were all knocking into each other - and I gather several had sunk

They were starting to lift some of the boats to safety and I gather from the local news that once the tide had dropped they towed lots more out - before the next high tide and more importantly before the next storm at the weekend.

  1. It's amazing how the swans carry on regardless. I feel so sorry for everyone affected by these terrible storms and so many beautiful coastal villages and towns being battered. Your photos bring home the strength of these seas.

    1. It really was very powerful, I stood there in awe watching the waves crashing up onto the rocks and then when I walked back down to the harbour had to admire how all the boatmen and others from the town had managed to get themselves organised to try to rescue as many boats as possible. Gather they are all out of the harbour now and not too many will have been a total loss.
Sadly there are two more storms in the forecast for the next week and so many of the sea defences are damaged.
