Not a great day, but at least it didn't rain until just after we got home from our afternoon walk.

The fruits of Autumn

The Blackberry pickers seem to have missed the footpath that goes along the rear of The St Piran Stud and heads for Goldsithney as there are quite a nice lot just ripening - very late and not great, but much better than  some we've seen.
An even better bunch a bit further along

Spotted this large shrub as we walked through the village - never noticed it before, but was drawn to it by the sight of these lovely berries. Had to look it up and I think it's Sea Buckthorn must keep an eye one it in Spring to see it flower
Anyone for Rose Hip Syrup !
Along The Churchway footpath at Men Zar these always look so lovely at this time of year

A walk to Mylor Yacht Harbour

We decided that since this was the last day of the fine weather we'd head out for the day. We drove to Flushing which is on the far side of the Penryn River from Falmouth. We parked and walked the dogs along the footpath which is alongside the Fal River Estuary which is known as The Carrick Roads.

One of the ferry boats heading into Falmouth - not sure where this one has been - possibly Trelissick or the tea garden at Smugglers Cottage
Lots of boats of all shapes and sizes out on the water with their owners wanting to take advantage of the super conditions today.
We seem to have taken far more photos on our way back when there was much more blue sky, but the views are the same ! Perhaps it was the thought of our lunch that kept us moving rather than stopping to take photos !

A lovely lunch at Castaways Wine Bar

We sat outside in the sunshine at Castaways Wine Bar at Mylor Yacht Harbour and Jim had this Flamed chicken liver & portobello mushroom with salad and garlic bread.
and I went for my favourite smoked salmon & lemon mayonnaise
Falmouth Gig Club's gig Fury out on The water today. Falmouth managed to win both the mens and womens World Pilot Gig championships on Scilly this year and 2011

What a load of bull !

Crumbs !  We walked through this field on our way to the Yacht Harbour for lunch and there were no cattle, but as we walked back to the car there they were.  We had to walk withing a couple of feet of several that were right by the footpath and as we walked a bit further on I noticed that this one was most definitely a Bull - they usually reckon that they're fine when in a field with their "girls" but the others were young  bullocks -  have to say he was very laid back and never even looked up at us !
When we first saw this field I assumed that it was a very late field of Oil Seed Rape But it was much shorter than any I've seen and seemed to be growing amongst grass. It did however have the same effect as Oil Seed Rape - an instant headache  for me due to the strong scent ! Fortunately it soon passed after we had walked into the next field
Wooster thought it was great !
and so did Tilly
The first of many of these superb Falmouth Working Boats that were out today
"The Falmouth working boat goes hand in hand with the oyster fishing industry that has taken place in and around the River Fal for hundreds of years. Native oysters grow freely in the shallow waters of the upper reaches of the Carrick Roads, from which they must be dredged under sail or oar between Nov 1st and March 31st."
The Falmouth Lifeboat Richard Cox Scott (17-29)  heading back to base !
Huge 300 metre long Liquefied Natural Gas Tanker Gola Maria out in Falmouth Bay with St Anthony Light in the foreground
Sailing past us with the part of the working port of Falmouth behind
Quite a stiff breeze blowing as they round the corner
Sailing with the beautiful Roseland Peninsular behind
and in front of my favourite little Castle - St Mawes
Not sure where Enterprise II was off to, but they do go all the way up The Carrick Roads to Malpas and on a high tide right up to Truro
Just so good to see all these Falmouth Working Boats out racing in great conditions

Looked like a scene from "The Birds" as I walked the dogs up towards Trenow this morning
Someone has been along the footpaths with a strimmer and cut all around the stiles - rather strange that the hundred of Nettles that have been causing much pain to bare legged walkers all along most of the footpaths have not been strimmed - strange kind of "cutback" that cuts back the cutting !
Jim seems to be making it his life's work to try to tread them all down as he passes by - at least it's getting to long trouser and walking boot time of year !
Lots of high cloud make it look less bright, but it was quite a nice day really !
Lovely clear St Michael's Mount today, not very many visitors out on the Balconies
I saw three ships - well - not going anywhere !
and then there were two - just noticed that one has left for USA
A very empty rocky Boat Cove this morning
Nice big beach this morning
It was such a pleasant morning that I popped into The Cabin Beach Cafe and had a lovely cappucino  and took this photo of the view.

Johanna Lucretia

Spotted the beautiful Johanna Lucretia crossing Mount's Bay
and a little later as we walked the dogs towards Trenow she was sailing down towards  Newlyn with Keith & Julie of West Cornwall Photos on Louby sailing in the background.
A lovely fine late afternoon/early evening
Nice Kestrel was hovering & swooping around Maen Dhu Point this evening - looks like it was hanging onto the bush a bit too much & took a piece with it.
Think someone is trying to send a message in the clouds

Nice to see some blue sky this morning
Lots of cloud overhead with a chink of blue appearing
Zooming in a bit makes it look much better
Wooster & Tilly are still counting down to "Beach Day" on Monday
The Cornish Hedge between our drive and the field above us in July 2010 as Tim rebuilt it
and here it is September 2012 with the Pampas Grasses even better than last year - the taller ones have been there for a couple of months.
This one is a real beauty - hope the fronds don't grow too long or they will get blown over

Spotted this as I opened the curtains this morning  - not much of a rainbow
Just arriving in Mount's Bay to take shelter from the NNE wind was the tug Fairplay 27 towing cable laying barge  AMT Explorer.  They are heading for Liverpool and they would not like the 11.5ft wave height out near Lands End at the moment.

Decent rainbow at last

I was pretty sure there would be another rainbow because of the position of the sun versus the black clouds and sure enough there it was - a double rainbow - I dashed out onto the balcony and took a couple of snatched shots as the rain was arriving
If it hadn't started to rain I'd have dashed down to the corner patio and got a better shot - sorry I know this one has got Mike in Mousehole sliding down to Newlyn, but if I correct the slope I'll lose half the rainbow !
