Such a sad sight as she lay on the rocks with her lifeboats still attached - it was made even worse when a couple of weeks later it was discovered that thieves had been on board and her compass and binnacle had been stolen.
Then last week I spotted GPS Atlas which is a Floating Sheerleg, being towed to Kinsale and I surmised that she might be going to salvage TS Astrid
There it is alongside the Astrid and preparing to life her onto a barge
Amazing that so few straps can manage to take the weight - I think she is metal hulled, so not as heavy as a wooden one
She has been brought into Kinsale Harbour - looking remarkably intact

Hopefully one day she will be looking like this again - as seen by us at the Tall Ships 2008 - perhaps even at the Tall Ships in Falmouth 28th - 31st August 2014
Great pictures Sue...sad all the same and as for the theft !!!macca.
ReplyDeleteFog or rain all day today, so I thought this was interesting - hopefully she will sail again ! Sue
