On the 24th July 2013 the Dutch Tall Ship Astrid lost power and went onto the rocks close to Kinsale, Southern Ireland. This is an RNLI photo from the Kinsale Lifeboat as they rescued the crew and passengersSuch a sad sight as she lay on the rocks with her lifeboats still attached - it was made even worse when a couple of weeks later it was discovered that thieves had been on board and her compass and binnacle had been stolen.
Then last week I spotted GPS Atlas which is a Floating Sheerleg, being towed to Kinsale and I surmised that she might be going to salvage TS Astrid
There it is alongside the Astrid and preparing to life her onto a barge
Amazing that so few straps can manage to take the weight - I think she is metal hulled, so not as heavy as a wooden one
She has been brought into Kinsale Harbour - looking remarkably intact

Hopefully one day she will be looking like this again - as seen by us at the Tall Ships 2008 - perhaps even at the Tall Ships in Falmouth 28th - 31st August 2014

Great pictures Sue...sad all the same and as for the theft !!!macca.
