Saturday

A fine but very breezy morning and Jim took the dogs for their usual trip to Trebarvah & back

Penzance

A trip into Penzance for me for a spot of shopping and a wander along the Harbour
Stereden va Bro at anchor in The Bay this morning
Scillonian III almost ready to go
At anchor the Belfast registered Scallop Trawler Vanquish - here's her story from the Penlee RNLI website "Penlee Lifeboat launched at 19:45 to assist the Lizard Lifeboat that was towing a 25m Scalloper towards Newlyn, the Scallop trawler suffered an engine room fire 2 miles south of the Lizard, Penlee Lifeboat took the tow off the Lizard Lifeboat and towed the scalloper to a position to anchor south of Gear Pole, the scalloper was unable to lift its derricks due to the fire so couldn't be towed into the harbour."
This evening I notice she has made it onto  the end of the Harbour
Don't think the stone piles on Battery Rocks will be there much longer as the tide was rising fast. Battery Rocks  being the origin of the name Penzance  from the Cornish Pen Sans meaning Holy Headland
Scillonian III making her way past The Mount on her way to Scilly
As I left Battery Rocks & walked towards the town I went through this small garden - called St Anthony's Garden -  the other side of the road from The Jubilee Pool. It is the site of an 11th century Chapel.
Bet it looked wonderful when the fountain was working
The last time I walked up Chapel Street I was walking on the wrong side of the road and forgot to take a shot of the Admiral Benbow
With the Pirate guard still on the roof ! !
I stood for a minute looking out from the balcony at the shopping centre looking over the car park and spotted the ketch Irene across the bay with Cudden Point behind
Think this was Happy Return just leaving Penzance
When I arrived home, there was Irene with the large cargo vessel C. Harmony behind her.  I assume Irene had her passengers on board that had booked a trip at the Fish Festival in Newlyn. They went  beyond Porthleven towards  Loe Bar then turned and headed back to Newlyn

Afternoon walkies

We took the dogs on their usual trip over to Trenow with quite a strong wind in exposed places
Nice light over The Greeb Rocks from Maên Dhu Point late this afternoon
Looking away from the sun it's nice and blue
A few people down on the beach this evening - nicely sheltered from the strong NW breeze

Mousehole Rescue Friday 30th

Some photos from Mike of the rescue yesterday - here are the details from the Penlee RNLI website. No news yet on the condition of the girl
"Penlee Inshore Lifeboat launched at 1700, a 10 year old girl suffered a seizure in the sea near Mousehole Harbour, luckily some local children and a fisherman recovered her and got her out of the sea, the Lifeboat crew arrived on scene in a few minutes and assisted the Coastguards and Paramedics, once stable the girl was carried on to the quay and airlifted to hospital by Rescue 193 helicopter, a great effort to save this girls life by all involved !"
Paramedic being winched aboard
and up he goes with the patient on a stretcher - a great job in tricky conditions - do hope she is OK - thanks for the photos Mike

Friday Morning Walkies

The sun came through some gaps in the clouds every now and then - this time it shone onto St Michael's Mount
and then it highlighted the old Penlee Quarry
Well the trainees are definitely back at RNAS Culdrose, this Merlin was going round and round - wondered if it was another family day
One man and his dog !
As I walked along the footpath towards home I wondered why the dogs had stopped, then I noticed the Wood Pigeon in front of Tilly
Not the brightest of birds - it waddled in front of Tilly all the way along until they just couldn't take it any more and chased it off

Friday, 30 August 2013

Really pleased with this £5.99 Oleander from Lidl - I've left it in its pot and got it on the balony and t has realy grown and today it burst into flower - with lots more to come.
Shearwater II looking quite full to`day

Afternoon walkies

We just walked the dogs up towards Ednovean & round to Trebarvah as were were going out tonight
The horse field with lots of dead Spotted Medick was looking like a scene from the Alfred Hitchcock film - with birds everywhere - this is just a few of them.

After being cut down just before they flowered, a few of the Chicory plants have managed to flower again - I assume for the very last time !
I had noticed that a little rain was on the way and just before we went out to The Victoria for Jim's & Nick's birthday meal (Jim yesterday and Nick tomorrow)  it started to drizzle
As  we were walking down the hill from Trebarvah I noticed a SAR helicopter approaching Mousehole and then circling around. -  This is the report from the RNLI website
After a few minutes they flew across Mount's Bay and as usual straight over our house on their way to Royal Cornwall Hospital -the condition of the girl is still unknown

Thursday, 29 August 2013

A cloudy start to the day, and we did have a few spots of rain after lunch, but then the sun came out for most of the afternoon
I was out on the balcony, when suddenly this Buzzard came very low over the house
Haven't seen one for a while

Afternoon walkies

Although it was a bit cloudy it was still warm enough to walk without a jacket
Such a pity that the clouds came back before we'd got out with the dogs as it had been a fine and sunny afternoon
Low tide at Boat Cove
Just a little splash of sunshine on Cudden Point as we walked towards the car park
Hardly anyone on the beach this evening
It got dark really early tonight as these big black clouds came overhead - forecast is not showing much sun tomorrow.

French Trawler hits rocks off The Lizard

French Trawler Scuderia hit rocks at Lankidden Cove, between Cadgwith and Coverack, on The Lizard at about 23:00 BST on Wednesday.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) confirmed that one of the vessel's five tanks has been damaged.  A spokesperson said approximately 10 tonnes of fuel had been lost from the trawler since it ran aground.
The five crew members on board have now been taken ashore.
Buoyancy aids, including airbags, are being used on the vessel.
The MCA said a further attempt to refloat the trawler was unlikely to happen "until tomorrow at the earliest".

Wednesday, 28 August 2013

A super sunny and warm morning, which promised to turn into another hot day
The beautiful Tall Ship Royalist heading out of Mount's Bay this morning, with Shearwater II speeding past !
They gradually hauled up the sails as she crossed the bay - sadly getting further & further away
We headed up the A30 to do a spot of shopping and walk the dogs at St Clement & Malpas - just had to get shot of this sign that had been "doctored" by someone at the Chiverton Cross Roundabout near Truro

St Clement

As we arrived at St Clement although the tide was receeding there was still plenty of water in the creek
and it looks so much better with water rather than just the mud
Lovely big clump of Bullrushes in a large boggy patch
Never seen white Ducks on Tresemple Pool before - they were very tame
Grey Heron paddling about on the far side
